Is Paulus Coming?

Duke point guard recruit Greg Paulus is a pretty interesting athlete. Like many Duke recruits, he is very highly ranked and he picked Duke early. What's different about Paulus is that he's also considered the top high school football quarterback. He has no plans on playing football at Duke, and Coach K doesn't want him to. Still, he's the #1 QB, so you know he has at least some desire to play college football.

Paulus' second choice, Notre Dame, has a pretty good football program. You may have heard about it. If he decides to play both football and basketball, he will probably switch his allegiance to the Irish. Adding more intrigue to the story is that Notre Dame basketball coach Mike Brey is a Krzyzewski disciple and one of his likely successors.

The QB/point guard angle reminds me a lot of Ronald Curry. As you remember, Curry, committed to Virginia for football with basketball as a secondary sport, but switched to UNC because of their basketball. It's sort of a backward version of the Paulus situation.

Gregg Doyel gives the full scoop.
