Fredo Bowden Steps Down

Just a couple of days after the unthinkable, being shut out by Wake Forest at home, Jeff Bowden has done the only sensible thing. He's quitting. Godfather Bobby Bowden could stick up for his inept son for only so long.

I'm sure the folks in Tallahassee are dancing in the streets right now.

Sources say that in the lockerroom after Saturday night's debacle, Bobby could be seen hugging Jeff and telling him "you broke my heart."

"It ain't the way I wanted it! I can handle things! I'm smart! Not like everybody says... like dumb... I'm smart and I want respect!"

Brilliant analogy--and I should know. I taught English! It grows harder and harder to feel sorry for Jeff or his dad when you read about the hypocritical and transparent ruse of "reporting to another coach" to sidestep the nepotism issue. No wonder those players didn't see anything wrong with taking free shoes.

Yeah, I hadn't heard that little tidbit until I read the article today. What a joke. Of course, I'm pretty sure Bobby can do whatever he wants until he retires.

BTW, I didn't want to get too much into the Godfather thing, but it works beautifully.

Terry, the oldest, is Sonny. Successful and charismatic, but too brash and not careful enough, so he got whacked by the Auburn family.

Jeff is obviously Fredo.

And Tommy is Michael. He started slowly, but is building his own empire to rival his dad's (well, not really, but he's working on it). You might even be able to work in an IPTAY reference.

"I can't--I can't--Papa!"

"Michael says that if you can't take care of this--I have to."
"Maybe you better."
So, who was Rocco?

Would that mean Chuck Amato is Luca Brasi?

I've actually been thinking that Chuck is Sally Tessio (Abe Vigoda). He was loyal to the Godfather for years before making a play to build his own family. He was then whacked by Michael (Tommy Bowden).

Of course in this case, Michael has had a lot of help whacking Tessio.
