Games On The Radio On The Computer

For those of us stuck at work for the next couple of days (and next week too), I've found that it's mighty handy to find radio stations that stream their broadcast on the Internet. I found a couple of stations last year that do this, but I guess I didn't save the links.

Does anyone know of a station that is carrying the games and streaming their broadcast? If so, post the URL or station name in the comments. I'll build a list here below. It could come in damn handy!

WCCP (Clemson)
The Boss (UNC)
WMAL (Maryland)
WTEM (Maryland, Virginia Tech)
WHFS (Maryland)
WJFK (Maryland)
WFMD (Maryland)
WRVA (Virginia)
WTAR (Virginia)
WTNT (Virginia)
WXRC (NC State)
WWNC (NC State)
WNMX (Duke)
WRNL (Virginia Tech)
WQXI (Georgia Tech)

I ponied up $10 for CSTV, but that only gives me the Tar Heels games. I guess fans should check their official team sites. The games will be on satellite radio and it seems to me that last year some station in Lenoir, NC or someplace had web feeds, but they may be a thing of the past now. It is strange how all that stuff was free on the Net ten years ago.

My recollection is that the Maryland network, for people in the DC area carried all the games. I'll check the Post tomorrow to see.

Yeah, just last year I found a station or two - just regular radio stations - that had their broadcast simulcasted on the Internet. For the tournament, most radio crews will do the whole tournament.

I'll poke around tomorrow when the first game starts and see if I can find some. It might be a good resource for the future as well.

Nice! Thanks. I added it to the list (first one).

This station usually has all of the Carolina games, and I know thier basketball crew does all of the games.

That's the one. I said Lenoir, but it's Shelby.

O.K. With respect to traditional radio, in the D.C. area, according to the Washington Post, there will be no local radio coverage of the Clemson-Florida State game. I mean it's one thing to watch that game, but did you really want to listen? There aren't that many FSU basketball players in the DC area and any Clemson fans will probably just listen in their tractors.

The Maryland-Miami game will be on WMAL (630 AM), WTEM(980 AM), WHFS (105.7 FM), WJFK (1300 AM) and on Frederick's finest, WFMD (930 AM). Coverage starts at 2:30PM.

I guess you all will be home for the evening games, but just in case, both the Duke and Georgia Tech games will be broadcast on WTEM(980 AM).

Excellent! That's the one I used for the tourney last year. My guess is that they won't cover today's games, but will start tomorrow. We'll see.

Excellent list, William. I checked and all of those do have live streaming broadcasts. I added them to the list. Lots of Maryland choices!

I just added a bunch more that I found by Googling. I think I have stations for 8 of the 12 teams right now.

I wish I'd done this a long time ago. There have been times where I couldn't see a game on TV but didn't feel like paying Yahoo for the radio broadcast.

Yeah. I just signed up for CSTV because twice a year, I miss the Tar Heels when they are on Raycom and we get Maryland those nights. Funny, it never seems to happen to Duke. UNC was on a clear channel for the last 30 years, WBT, that could be heard from New Brunswick to Cuba after dark. Dean thought that helped with Northeast recruiting but I guess times change and UNC is now carried on a station in Charlotte that we couldn't even receive after sundown out in Davidson, where my in-laws live.

Hey folks having trouble finding a station broadcasting the Maryland game. None of these seem to airing it. Anyone have any leads?

(12) by william on 03/08/2007 02:31 pm
Real radio or on the internet?

(13) by william on 03/08/2007 02:36 pm
I am afraid they are blacking them out. That is why I still have my friend the Zenith Royal 500H. You can't beat them for AM on the go.

(14) by william on 03/08/2007 02:41 pm
Bojevus, you are not registered so I can't email you.(just one of the benefits of registering. I swear to God it takes 30 seconds).

The Maryland stations are not working for me on the internet, only on terrestial radio. The Shelby station listed above is working, if you don't mind listening to Woody Durham of the Tar Heels.

(15) by Dave on 03/08/2007 02:54 pm
Yeah, I think the Tar Heel guys are doing all the games. I have to admit, I like listening to Woody do games. He's old and misses a lot, but has a great radio voice.

Yep - go here to get the game with the UNC guys - http://www.theboss.us/

His son does the GPI games and sounds exactly the same.

For anyone who is looking for the Clemson feeds, wccpfm.com is the place to go.

Hi, William -- that's twice I've seen you refer to GT as GPI. As a GT alum, I feel compelled to speak up -- Georgia Tech is the Georgia Institute of Technology while VT is Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Obviously, if you're Stephon, all bets are off and GT is Georgia Tech University.

Matt

I apologize. I meant to type Georgia Tech University.

Well william I took your advice and went ahead and registered. Just decided to use my real name.

(22) by william on 03/09/2007 10:37 am
Thanks. And it only took 30 seconds. Truth in advertising by Dave.

(23) by Dave on 03/09/2007 11:07 am
So, are all Maryland games always blacked out? If so, I should probably remove those stations, right?

(24) by Evan on 03/09/2007 11:56 am
OK, the Boss is working for the carolina game, pregame show's on now (11:50)

Funny this thread should get a new comment. Last week during the ACC Tournament, I went back to this page to try find stations carrying the games. It seems like most streaming stations now black out live sporting events. They just air music or some other prerecorded show.

But I'm sure (or at least, I hope) that there are still some who carry the game broadcasts.
