Skip Prosser Dies Of Heart Attack
Wow. This is terrible news.
Skip Prosser apparently had a heart attack this morning while jogging and died. He was 56 years old. By all accounts, he was an extremely likable and good man.
Sad, sad, sad. I feel terrible for his family, his friends, his current and former players and all Wake Forest and college basketball fans.
I had even planned on writing a post this week about how Prosser had earned himself two more guaranteed years at Wake by signing two outstanding players a couple of weeks ago. I hope their commitments made his final weeks happy.

What makes it even more sadly ironic is that his son Mark, an assistant coach at Bucknell University, was scheduled to face Skip and the Deacs in the early part of the season. I imagine that will be a pretty unbearably sad game to have to play for everyone...

The whole thing is just so shocking. I imagine there will be countless times this year (and longer) when everyone will be reminded.
I wasn't a fan of his as a bench coach and have been critical of his implementation of the "screaming Deacons" concept, which I loathed, but he always seemed to be such a decent guy that as a Carolina fan, I could never dislike him, even during his initial period of success against the Tar Heels.
Skip, you became an integral member and personality of the ACC family in a flash and we are going to miss seeing you chomp on that gum on the sidelines. Rest in peace.

He didn't implement the Screamin' Demon (not Deacon) concept - that was implemented in 1990 by a student-led group and Dave Odom.
With that said, as a WFU alumnus, we'll miss Skip very much. We pay tribute to him here:

My apologies. I probably shouldn't have mentioned that anyway. I only meant to say that everyone is feeling this in way that we wouldn't for a lot of coaches, regardless of what we thought of him as a coach. Skip Prosser was a genuine guy and everyone liked him.
I'm still crushed at Coach Prosser's passing. I admired him on many levels and couldn't have been happier with the way he represented Wake. Skip really became a big part of the Winston-Salem community in a short time. I think everyone that wanted to meet Skip got the chance. It's a big loss for everyone. I'm not ready to think about the program, next season, or the next coach yet.
