What is Dave Sez?
Dave Sez is a website about sports. The main focus is ACC and regional sports, but any sport is fair game. Read more of this page to get a better feel of what it's all about.

Who is Dave?
Just a regular guy. I'm not a sportswriter or anyone with any special access to any teams or information. I'm a fan like you. In real life, I'm a computer programmer, and I just do this on the side. You can email me here.

What is the point of this site?
I created this site for two reasons:

  • I wanted a place to put down my thoughts about sports. I've been trading emails with friends for years, but decided to try to expand my reach a little. I didn't want to bother people with emails almost every day, so I thought this would be a good way to get my thoughts out there and see what others thought about them. If you ever saw the old Boston Sports Guy site (before he became just "The Sports Guy" and moved to espn.com's Page 2), that's my model - lot's of good, funny writing about sports stories that interested him. My writing will never be as good as his, but he's my target.
  • The other reason is actually a bigger one. I want a community where anyone can go to engage in reasonable conversation about ACC and other sports. There are tons of good fan sites for this sort of thing, but they are all focused on one particular school. Therefore, those sites tend to devolve into extremely biased ranting. They all think their teams are great and all the other schools are evil. The conversations are rarely reasonable. It gets particularly bad if the team isn't doing well. Then, nearly every conversation is about why they need to fire the coach. It gets very old. In real life, when buddies talk sports, there are usually guys coming at the conversation from different viewpoints and fan interests. That's what makes those conversations so much fun. I want something like that on the Web.

Is this a blog?
Sort of. It looks like one, doesn't it? It's not going to have any posts about what I had for breakfast or why you shouldn't vote for some guy for president. The big difference between this site and a regular blog is that I intend for it to be a community. The message boards should become the best part of the site with my articles just there as fodder for conversation.

Is this a community?
That's the goal. That's exactly what I want. I don't intend for this to be just a sounding board for my thoughts. I want to know what others think.

So why did you call it Dave Sez?
Maybe it's a dumb name. It was just something I came up with to convey that I'm dumping out my thoughts. It does sound a bit exclusive, doesn't it? Ignore that. I want to hear what you have to say too.

What sports do you write about?
Anything really, but my focus is the ACC. I live in Cary, NC, so I'll probably have a tendency to write about the local schools (Duke, UNC and NC State) the most. The sport I like and know the best is college basketball (which is what the ACC is all about), so you'll get a lot of that. I'll also write about the NBA, college football, the NFL, soccer, golf, lacrosse and anything else that interests me. Probably not too much baseball or hockey though. I've gotten sick of baseball and I've just never gotten into hockey (yes, I've been to games).

What teams do you root for?
My goal is to be accused of rooting for (or hating) every team out there. That's when you know you're doing a good job! Really though, I pull for Virginia in college sports. I didn't go to UVA, but I grew up in Charlottesville during the Ralph Sampson years. I went to college at a Division III school, so I maintained my D1 free agent status and stuck with the Cavaliers. The only pro teams I claim are the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Orioles (although I barely care any more).

Well, those are all the fake questions I can come up with. Anything else you'd like to know? Email me. No more questions? OK then; go write something in the message boards.
